Is TNMGon a flat carbide seat (some carbide seats are made to match the chipbreaker, providing support all the way to the periphery) noticeably weaker than TNMM? Different inserts have different chipbreakers, and I usually don't have matching carbide seats. I am using them to cut hard materials.

Any single sided insert sitting on a new carbide seat is going to be more stable than an equivalent shape double sided. Chipbreaker patterns that are used repeatedly in a toolholder will eventually leave their impression on the seat. When you change to a new chipbreaker design and want to judge tool life it's best to put a new seat in the holder.

If you are looking to get strength in an insert for roughing, you'll gain far more by going to a round (R), 80º parallelogram (C) or square (S) shape insert over that triangular (T) you show.

TNMM are harder to find on ebay than TNMG, so how are people using all these tools --- do they all have the appropriate chipbreaker seats and holders, or is the strength of a flat seat unnoticeable (perhaps they are mostly using high-feed instead of heavy cuts, perhaps coating thinning occurs prior).
