I have just put a burdett 18 x 6 hydraulic feed surface grinder back together but the motion on the auto cross feed doesn't make sense, the cross feed is indexed by a rotary hydraulic cylinder pulling a ratchet by a lever around the handwheel shaft, the odd thing is that the hydraulic cylinder turns 270 degrees rather than 180, by turning 270 degrees there is double motion on the feed as the ratchet starts to backtrack past 180, is this normal? or should I pull the hydraulic cylinder apart and put some polyurethane stops inside to limit the stroke to 180 degrees. I don't know if this is a common method of indexing the cross feed.
