They should have bought a Caterpillar. Then the entire engine would only be$1.3 million instead of just the crank, and it probably would have lasted quite a bit longer.
 
This looks like a low speed diesel. 10-15 rpm idle....100 rpm max. Cross throw type of piston. Conn rod does not bolt directly to crankshaft. Million dollars a hole, 1000hp per cylinder. My memory is from 30 years ago. You see in the one foto that the head bolts go through the cylinder to block. A "chandelier" is put over the head, bolts are stretched hydraulically, and the nuts can be removed by hand (yea,I know). The low speed diesels in my day could aspirate bunker C to coal dust. Sulzer (sp) Swiss company gave Mitusbishi build rights.
