I have some sealed ball bearings with "Perma Lube" solid polymer lubricant that need to be heated for installation on a 0.75" shaft.

How much heat can I apply to these without damaging the lubricant?

Thanks.

Leigh,

I don't know if this "Perma-Lube" is a generic name in the bearing industry but SKF states for their W64 polymer solid lube these figures: max continuous temp measured on the bearing OD is 180 deg F and the max intermittent temp measured at the same spot is 200 deg F.

Thanks very much, Stuart.

Those numbers sound reasonable.

There is a Permalube company, and the name is a registered trademark. The problem is they make lots of different products, and I have no idea which are suitable for ball bearings.

SKF is certainly a reputable company, and I'll accept their recommendations.

Thanks again.
