I acquired an old DIY machine press, pretty much a basket case, however, I want to use the ram and jack on my own diy press. The jack (20 TON) is G.A.C. MFG CO. Ashland Ohio Model H785. Have not been able to find any information on this. Would like to rebuild this before installing in new fabricated press. The pump and ram cylinder do function, only a slight leak from piston packing around nut. The packing glands are worn pretty bad, they appear to be rubber type washers.I thought I could replace them with leather. Any thoughts? Any information on this subject would be greatly appreciated.
