I just got a 500 ton clifton hobbing press, I am going to use it to sink my dies for my business. Have any of you guys ever used a clifton. I have an old as dirt 200 ton hobbing press but it is getting pretty worn out and it is so old I couldnt get pump parts. Just curios if anyone has any knowledge of them.

Come on, Kevin. We don't want to read stores of tool porn. We want pictures!

I know little of what you are doing. How large a shape can you hob with 500 ton? What material is used for the die?

I have never been able to post pics. I will see if one of the girls at the shop can do it for me. I am using o1 dies and 12l14 for the working female die. We take old hubs and press them into mild steel to form inexpensive impression dies that are used in my press. I just bought ten thousand hubs last week in providence.

If pump parts are unavailable why not replace the pump? Or is it a special design for which no replacement exists?

I was going to rebuild the pump but it is from the 1930s and the cylinder is of the same era. They have leather seals. The whole machine is pretty beat, it flexes alot and is just one press away from blowing another gasket. The machine is like a fountain when a seal lets go.
