McAfee Antivirus warning pop-up for Practical Machinist
Since yesterday morning, my McAfee Antivirus has been giving me this warning when logging on to PM:
"When we visited this site, we found it exhibited one or more risky behaviors"
The Site Advisor gave this explanation:
"McAfee TrustedSource web reputation analysis found potential security risks with this site. Use with extreme caution."
Anybody else getting this? Here is the link for the report:

See what kind of warnings you may get from Spybot S&D regarding antivirus software...
-
Had similar problems which started about one week ago, my Vipre security software blocked access to PM stating that the website contained content that was harmful to my computer. Trusting Don as I do ....I created an exception in Vipre on my laptop which allowed viewing this site, I dont remember doing the same on my desktop PC but PM is no longer blocked, whether that means the problem has been removed from PM or that Vipre applies the exception rule to all computers on my network I honestly dont know.

In general, I have found McAfee to BE a virus, given the aggressive and hard-to-remove "nagware" that drove me away from it years ago....
The risk is probably the ability to post pictures..... or something in your own computer, I have not got any such from the AV stuff I use.

Hello Weirsdale George
No such warnings from Norton 360.
-
The ultimate authority on this sort of thing is Google.... if there truly is a problem they will flag the site. But someone else emailed me about this yesterday so I checked with IT and the response is below. So if you can answer below, perhaps we can track down a new ad plugin that is problematic.
Can you provide the actual message and where you got it form - also is it desktop installation of that software, what OS and version. It could be the VB, the Plugins on the advertising module we use...

If this is addressed at me -- Windows 7, IE 9.0.4 and here is the actual message link:

McAfee and Norton both suck. I have used AVG for years with no problems whatsoever and I've had no recent warnings about anything to do with the PM site...

Bit of a 'sideswipe' anyway. PM isn't the one setting the offending cookies. doubleclick is. And they don't really need them.
- Set the browser to not accept third-party cookies, the site AND the adverts still display. They just don't keep tracking the viewer afterwards.
- Don't want to see doubleclck's particular ration of irrelevance at all? Block THEM, not PM. The PM site and OTHER adverts still display.
- Don't want McAfee in your face? Run something else. The PM site still displays. Plus whatever adverts one allows.
No big deal.
PM has a MUCH lower attempted-advert and attempted-tracker load than average.

I've got McAfee (had it for years) and never had problems. I have though had problems with accessing PM in some foreign countries either with the hotel internet or that at an internet cafe. Both Europe and Asia, but not all countries. There doesn't seem to be any rule for when it happens.

Below from IT today. Is McAfee still giving that stupid warning ?

Just to follow up - Don - we checked the website and we don't see anything wrong the code. Google Webmeister tools also looks good.
The scanner also gives good results.

This used to happen to my wife all the time and finally I bought her a Mac. Haven't had problems since and it's been about 5 years.
Do yourself a favor, toss your windows system in the trash, it was probably only forced down your throat when you bought a PC anyway...install Linux on it if you are competent enough to run it, or get a Mac and don't look back.
Anyone willing to run Windows deserves the outcome.
It would be comparable to using a chinese mini-lathe for precision work...

Malacron -- The McAffee "risky behavior" warning stopped popping up on my machine maybe four or five days ago.

Interesting, thanks George.

We run McAfee at work and I have it on my server at home. I didn't see any warnings, so it could relate to how paranoid its settings are.
-
No...no...
... The warning is about us poster's. Machinist are a very sick and nasty bunch!!
Steve
I could not resist.

'If only' it were that low-risk.
WinWOES is more akin to plumbing a public toilet drain into your drinking water supply, then expecting to NOT become ill if only you keep up with antibiotics and 'security patches'. Still tastes of piss, reeks of s***, and gives the drinker parasites they don't even know they have.
And they'll defend it to the death, yet. Go figure.

So you have a Mac and the rest of should toss our equipment. Furthermore we are incompetent if we keep our PC's but don't know how to run Linux.
I don't like Macs. they are probably OK but I just don't like them. The main reason for that is my old boss from 25 years ago before I became self-employed. He was a big Mac and Apple booster. Unfortunately, he was a stupid, arrogant, narcisstic, moron who continually suggested that I either toss my PC in the trash or learn to use Linux if I was competent enough to use it.

Gee, I posted this exact subject with a picture of the message - last week- and chief Milacron deleted it.
