Thought I’d share this with you -- I was having trouble with the latch (for the lack of a better term) on my gooseneck trailer tripping while lowering the hitch onto the ball if the ball was off a little to the left side of perfect alignment. This caused me to jack the trailer back up, reposition the truck and try again.
For my particular hitch, I made a block of steel (in my case, about ¾”Wx1-1/2”Lx1/4”T) which fits into the gap that opens up when the latch is in the unlocked position. This block prevents the latch from closing prematurely due to misalignment.
I secured the block to the trailer with a 2’ piece of ¼” bungee cord.
(Looking at a friend’s trailer which has a different designed hitch, the block would be something like 3”Lx1/2”Wx1/4”T.)
