Who is going to volunteer for the job of checking head volume with petrol/gasoline?

I see plenty of processes where hands are not protected.

Chris - can we assume sarcasm? They are not wearing safety glasses either, after all this was in the early 60's.

It is worth noting that the basic car assembly method (manually moving cars on 3 wheel dolly's) continued well into the 911 era. Porsche was known to have some of the best fit and finish in the industry but it was all due to rework. If memory serves Porsche also had Toyota come in as consultants to redo the factory - they were the only car company that the Toyota consulting business was allowed to work with.
