I need a rigid , flame retardant, sound absorbing panel, 1/2 inch thick, and die cut to size and shape. phenolic foam looks good on paper, but I seem to have a problem finding anyone who sells this stuff for things other than roofing insulation, ie foil laminated thicker sections.
ITW doesn't seem to have a way to answer inquiries.
this replaces a sheet metal part with urethane foam on both sides, that is heavy and expensive to make. has to be self supporting but it is only separating two air streams with maybe 2psi difference in pressure between them, so I don't need a lot of strength. I am open to suggestions, but this has to comply to a HB spec [to be determined] for UL compliance.
so I need a fabricator who is already working with this stuff.
this is a few hundred pieces at a time.
thanks

SJ:

Have you looked at mineral wool? It's non-combustable (meets ASTM E84) and is an excellent sound absorber. The manufacturer could give you names of some fabricators.

Rock Wool Manufacturing Company | Delta(R) Mineral Board

Note however, the pressure you cite is substantial - that's almost 300 lbs/sq ft. Only a thick metal plate will withstand that. The material may have to be bonded to such a plate.

DB
