New ablative on 20 footer about a year ago, pulled 'er out yesterday and appalled at the barnacles on some areas of the bottom...and yet none at all on most areas. What would you do, touch up the "bad" areas yourself or pay to have to have marina pull if off the trailer and redo the whole bottom ? (assuming money pinching tendencies of course) I guess the big question would be if the non growth areas are on the verge of paint failure as well...

Probably due for a pressure wash, sanding and another coat. Some areas, like here in the NW, you can go over a year between coats, the farther south you go, maybe a couple of treatments a year.

The trade-off of keeping it in the water full time, vs a lift or trailer.

Btw, lots of good info on the cbrats forum. Bottom paints and painting have been discussed frequently.

I've gone 3 years or more in same water with hard bottom paint on sailboat without nearly as much barnacle growth. Apparently this ablative stuff comes off too easily. And yet the hard type will supposedly stop working at all if out of the water for a few weeks and then put back in.
