I tried Online Metals over the holidays partly out of curiosity and partly because they were easy (online ordering on their website that is). I needed a 1 x .125 x 2' section of free machining brass which the customer is to pay for. The shipping was insane at $11.71 for a $13.82 purchase but I went ahead and did it.
Well, look what arrived via UPS yesterday:
That's a toolbox size copy of Machinery's Handbook, not the desk copy!
This is all that was inside. Two lousy feet of .125 bar stock and a greasy receipt wrapped around the end. Nothing like shipping 4 lbs of paper and cardboard packaging halfway across America for a 1 lb piece of bar stock. Somehow, I don't Online Metals will be getting my business in the future if that's the way they like to pack things. I'm afraid that if I order a 6" cutoff of 3" 4130 it will come strapped to a pallet.
Feel free to laugh at my expense.
