I have a piece of steel that I have to turn down. It is 0.772" in diameter. It will slip, with very little effort into a J15 (5/8" - 3/4") Rubberflex collet. The question is, is that OK to, do or should I be scrunching down the J16 (3/4" - 7/8") collet ? Thanks.

Personally, I would use the 5/8-3/4--if no pressure is needed to insert your metal. Either will do and ain't Jacobs Rubber Flex collets great!
