I have a 14" King wood bandsaw. I purchased a 6" riser block for it and it came with a round guide shaft. My saw has a 1" square shaft and longer square shaft is no longer available. I could weld an extention on the original square shaft but I am concerened that it might be difficult to get it in alignment. Another option is to use a 1 1/2" lap joint milled in the original shaft and in the extention and use 4- 1/4" counter-sunk cap screws to hold it all together. I am woundering if this would be strong enough to prevent any undue play in the shaft guide. The original shaft is 12" long and I need the new shaft has to be 18 1/2" long.

I would reckon that begging borrowing or buying a peice of 1" square cold rolled, long enough, would be easier than anything else.

however, If you just gotta make an extension, consider turning a tenon on the end of the guide mountng bar that you have, and silver braze a bored to fit piece of square cold rolled.
That will be axially aligned and you can eyeball the twist.
