What type of cutter is the large facing tool pictured? What speed should it be run at? Its 2-1/4" in diameter. Can these be sharpened? its not in the best condition.
What speed should the saw cutter be run at? It's 3" x 1/8"
Is there a formula that can be applied to calculate these speeds depending the material I'm cutting. I'm usually working in mild steel and aluminium.
Thanks.

most catalogs selling the tooling will have formulas and recommendations.
.
in your head 75 sfpm thats 12/3.14 or 4 so thats 300 rpm per inch
so 2" dia thats 150 rpm
3" thats 100 rpm
for 1018 steel
.
obviously cutter vibration might require going slower. most machinist can do basic formulas in their head in less than 10 seconds. if steel and making blue chips your going too fast

This is basic machining. Did you search the forums?

First one is a shell mill, my guess is HSS. They can be resharpened. I'd run it at about 75-125 SFM in mild steel. Check Machinery's Handbook for better recommendations based on your material's actual composition and hardness. The handbook says 165 SFM for HSS milling (end milling) in cast & wrought aluminum.

Slitting cutters are more of a black art. Machinery's Handbook says start at 1600 SFM for slitting aluminum with HSS, 265 SFM for slitting mild steel.

N.B.: RPM = SFM ÷ diameter ÷ .2618, or RPM = SFM × 3.82 ÷ diameter
