Scully Jones adapter, how are they used?

Hello all. I have these Scully Jones adapters and am wondering if anyone knows how their intended to be used? These adapters go from a male Morse taper to a straight bore with a tang at the bottom of the bore. From what I’ve been able to find these are intended as a tap adapter. What I cant wrap my head around is how the depth adjustment works. Adjusting the depth rings does not change the bore depth. What is the intent of the adjustment rings? Are there parts I’m missing, such as a collet for a specific tap size? I haven’t found any catalogs or information specific to these type holders. Thanks.

Ah yes, Scully Jones tap adapter. I used to have a paper catalog on them, but left it at my old job. They don't have much of a web presence. Best bet is to find one of their distributors and give them a call. I believe the parent company is no longer in business.

I loved their catalog for the amount of more taper drive tools.

I think the adjustment was more for torque than it was for depth

They are adjustable countersink tools. SJ made their own tanged cutters to go in the center hole.
