It seems like I keep getting a lot of parts that need blind holes of various sizes tapped to (reasonably) controlled depths. I'm strictly a manual shop at present, otherwise this problem would be solved simply by programming.
Anyway, my questions are : 1. Will a lead screw tapping unit, such as a the ones made by Procunier, allow you to accurately tap to a set depth repeatably?
2.Will one of these allow you to back the tap out to clear the chips, and start back into the same thread correctly to finish the thread to depth?
I've used regular reversing tapping heads all my life, but I've never been around a leadscrew tapper. Just wondering if one might solve a few problems.
