I really want to make my own home brewed lathe. I have researched the Gingery Lathe and even gone as far as to 3D model the entire setup. I imagine if I did any casting, I would 3D print them and then cast them... I am far from there however.
I recently came across this:
Concrete Lathe - My CMS
A fully functional concrete lathe design. I wanted to bother some of you veteran chip throwers and ask for your 2 cents about this concrete lathe idea? From my perspective, concrete would provide excellent additional weight and vibration absorption as compared to the Gingery lathe's aluminum cast body.
Jgro's Shop Pages: Gingery Lathe - Bed
Although...the more I think about a lathe made of concrete, the less I like it. But I am curious about what others think of it.
