Threaded backplate 41mm (1.615) x 3mm (8 tpi), what is it for?

I have a threaded backplate with the cylindrical part ID of 41mm (1.615) with a 3mm (8 tpi) thread.

I am looking to find out what it is for.

11" South Bend (early thirties) had 1 5/8" - 8 - but that does not mean your back plate is for it.

Thanks. The ID of the cylindrical part, the part past the threads on the spindle, is 1.615". Do you know the exact dimension of the SB cylindrical part on the spindle?

No, but it would not make any difference, since the length varied on both the thread and the non thread

It was an era of maker standards - not industry or national standards

There could have easily been a dozen makers using 1 5/8 - 8 spindle noses - all different

Possibly, but it does not look that old and if my memory serves me, the chuck that was on it was european. So it might be off of a swiss machine.
