Bought this thinking it was something else, which it didn't turn out to be. Now I want to get rid of it but would like to get an idea what it is first. It has five round collets, with inside diameters: 3/8, 1/2, 9/16, 19/32 & 5/8. The large crank handle turns the spindle and the small brass handle opens and closes the collet holder. The only markings are on the outside of the large crank: an "L" with an arrow pointing clockwise and a "T" with an arrow the other direction. There is also "USA" embossed in the casting. The main casting measures about 5.5" x 4". Thanks All!

Thats a hand lathe to turn down the commutator end of a starter armature. One patent #2281307 there are others too, all similar in design. I think your actual patent is #2357765

vmil3 is correct. they are the handiest thing for turning armature commutators for starter motors and older automotive and tractor generators.
