Hi All. I need a small mill to fiddle with in my backyard shop and don't have a lot of money for a real mill (knee). So I need some help looking for an under $1500 mill/drill. I've looked at all the usual suppliers on the web...Enco, Grizzly, Epay, etc.

Is it worth the extra money to get a geared head?

What's worth the money?

I don't want a "mini mill", something bigger, about 1 1/2 - 2 HP on the motor and 18"-24" on the table. Any suggestions? Anybody have a used machine? (if so, PM me)

Many thanks, Flat.

i have an industrial hobbies RF-45 clone and like it better than a bridgeport in some cases. yes it needs some finishing but overall its a good machine.
