I want to make some Uniforce style clamp shells with serated knife edges so they will need to be steel. Shells will be 1/2" wide, hopefully 1/2" tall but may be taller if needed, and flex around .01" per side. What would be the best steel to use and how hard? I would rather use something that is prehardend but can heat treat if needed. This is outside my realm of knowledge so any useful advice is appreciated. Initial thoughts are 1095 spring steel.
I already make my own aluminum shells and steel wedges so have some idea of what I am doing.
