OT: Notifications are disapearing

Some setting I have not found I imagine...When I have a "like" there is a notification in the top corner...when I click it...all I get is ...there is no activity to show...also...my activity is never logged under that tab...Oh where for art thou setting...?

I suppose I could be imagining the little red circle in the top right hand corner of the screen, maybe its schizophrenia setting in. Beyond that...nothing is listed in my recent activity log within my profile, makes keeping up with threads I'm involved in difficult.
