17/32 -40 tap

Big difference between 17/32"-40 in the OP and 7/32"-40, which is a peep sight thread.

Victor Tool is an excellent source for oddball taps and dies at reasonable prices. They do have 1/2"-40 and 9/16"-40, but no 17/32"-40. Can you adjust to accommodate one of these instead?
 
Ah they like to do stuff like that to make it hard on people
making their own parts, and it might be that's what worked best from a design perspective.
not a big deal for a manufactures to get a custom tool made.

switch to an actual reasonable standard size, and make a new barrel nut. much as I hate to say it, preferably metric, because inventing new inch threads in 32nd fractionals is absolutely fucked. "made in america" or not. join us in the 21st century
