Can anyone see a reason that a 32 H&R mag chamber in a derringer cant be rechambered to 32-20? It looks like the 32-20 is larger in all dimensions and a quick pass with a chambering reamer might do the trick. Bob

The body of the case will cleanup fine, but the neck area will not. you will be left with a odd double shoulder on the case; because the neck on the 32-20 starts before the mouth of the 32 case.

According to the SAAMI dimensions, the shoulder of the 32-20 is slightly past the end of the 32H&R mag case, so it should work. Alternatively, if possible the barrel could be set back. If the firearm is a revolver, the cylinder might not be long enough to handle the 32-20 round.

An alternate to the 32-20 is the 327 magnum, which is a longer yet version of the 32 S&W family of cartridges. It can give performance equal to the 32-20 in a firearm capable of handling the pressure and has the advantage of allowing any of the other 32 S&W based cartridges to be used in the same gun.

The gun would be a 2 barrel derringer and 32-20 just because I like the black powder era cartridges. Having a derring, a revolver and a rifle in the same cartridge seems like something they might do back then. Chambering a derringer might be interesting given the odd shape of the barrels and having two bores in the same piece. Bob

Somebody chambered them the first time. The second time wouldn't be any more difficult for a machinist with common skills. Kenny
