Default Hopkins & Allen 932 questions

I have read several articles on how these little falling block actions can be made into a 22 LR rimfire ,but never anything on one being converted to 17 HMR. The block and reciever seem to be cast steel. I have a very tight action with original screws made before 1898 I have been thinking of making a small copy of the Win High Wall rifle with the tang peep sight. Brownell's have the 17 and 22 liners cheap. I don't have the deHass book on single shots. It is just something to play around with and have a little plinker.

I do have the deHaas book, and he sees no problem with chambering the 932 in 22 magnum. 17 HRM was not available at the time of publication, but since it has the same pressure as the 22 magnum, I see no problem with that.

I did line and chamber one for a friend a few years ago. I have also done the 17 HRM in a #4 remington Rolling Block and a 44 Stevens. All three are good shooters. Keep us posted with your build.

Edited to add, Green Mountain has gunsmith special barrels in 17 and 22 magnum for $33.00, less than price of a liner. They are 21" length, long enough for function, but might be a bit short for appearance.
