Laser Sintered Printed M1911

I wouldn't worry too much yet. It builds in layers 20-50 microns thick, biggest part is about 10x10x12, the cheap machine is $850K, the expensive one is 1.3 million, and a 4 1/2" in diameter fan wheel looking component took 8 1/2 to 17 3/4 hours to build, depending on the machine, with a 130-300RA surface roughness.

And I hate to think what the powder costs. Shapeways was quoting $8 per cubic centimeter for finished articles in late 2012: 3D printing with metal: The final frontier of additive manufacturing | ExtremeTech

Remarkable if it could print a rifled barrel smooth enough to have decent accuracy. I can see that in the distant(or not so distant) future, that most all machining might be done this way, providing the metals are strong enough.
