used .980-12 tap wanted

building from scratch or reworking?

just some thoughts.
Unless you are building from scratch you might actually want to go 'oversize'.
I have some Turkish Mausers to work on as hobby work and they are know to
have some, lets say, non standard threading. So I did some E-bay shopping and
got some 1"X12 taps. Now I haven't yet used them but the plan is that when
I run into one of those funky 'non standard' Turkish threads to clean them up
with the 1" taps. Run in a 'plug' tap then the 'bottom' tap.
Now this all assumes that you are going to lathe cut the barrel threads to
match anyway.
If you didn't know there are Mausers out there that are at 1" anyway in
addition to .98 and 1.1. I just can't remember the name right now.
As long as we are talking about the Turks. Some have suggested that if you
have a 1.1 tap why stop at 1". Just keep tapping the turk receiver until you
make it a standard large ring thread. I guess I should be a bit more specific.
I'm not talking about the 93 or german made 03 turks, I'm really referring to the '38' K.Kale Turk.
