Hello
I'm new to this forum and wow there is a lot of information here!
I hope I'm in the right place and looking for some answers that I can't figure out

I have a 416r stainless barrel. When I was tapering it (first time) I some how messed up.
It is threaded for a Remington 700 and will be a 338 ultra mag. From the barrel shoulder to 3 inches down the barrel it goes from 1.19-1.17
I'm trying to figure out the safety factor and make sure there is enough metal left that it's safe

What is the tensil strength of the stainless steel?
And to get a safety factor in the hoop stress calculator do I double the pressure or just dived the hoop stress number into the number for the tensil strength

Any help would be appreciated

Thank you

Generally with a reinforce of that diameter, one just does it. I think you would be surprised if you did hoop stress calcs on barrels for even .308 case chambers.

You can do them by hand or use this javascript calculator.
