How does one cut a chamber in a bore that is nitrocarburized. I am talking about in the home shop, the low path to technology. No doubt there is some super stuff one can buy using nano-diamond cutters, or whatever.

Apparently the process involves exposing the bore to nitrogen, can one conclude the hard layer is mostly towards the surface?

My situation is with a 50 BMG barrel, but apparently even some handgun barrels have this also.

The hard surface layer is only .005 or so thick, but you will need carbide to cut through. Carbide chamber reamers are available but very expensive.
