I have most of a falling block action built, and i used p20 pre hardened tool steel for the body of the action. The piece of steel i had for the block itself has disappeared (read some gentleman swiped it) but i still have plenty of p20 left. What do you think of me making the block out of p20 prehard and having it nitrided to stop the block galling against the action body ? The nitrided surface should be roughly twice as hard as the action.
What effect would the heat of the heat treatment process have on the core of the block ? Would the dimensions of the block stay stable ?
