Greetings,

I need to tap a 12GA barrel for a choke that has 32tpi threads. What size tap do I need. The ones I see on Brownells have 44tpi threads. Thanks in advance for your help.

Patrick,
To be honest, a tap is not the best choice. Do you have a lathe or access to one? 32 TPI is a fine thread and hard to get both right and concentric with a tap. Just food for thought.

Piloted choke taps are all bastard size. If you want one not offered commercially you will have to make one or pay some one to make you one. Pacific Tool and Gauge might do it for you. Taps are pretty simple to make.

Both Winchoke and Remchoke are 32 tpi, Brownells sells taps for both (very hard to find stuff in their online catalog for some reason). You can also rent them from some of the same places that rent reamers.

Manson Reamers sells three families (last I looked) of choke tube taps and reamers. Might want to give Dave Manson a call and inquire about your issue.
