    Default vertical parkerizing?

I've never done parkerizing but am going to give it a whirl. A conventional "trough" type ss tank for the park solution itself in a size I need is going to be quite a bit of money for a hobby experiment. I have a source of SS pipe that might work with an end cap on one end, stood vertical and the barrel suspended inside. Any reason this wont work?

I see no reason it wouldnt work. I would be careful with the stability of a top heavy setup, but I think it will yield satisfactory results. ETA parkerizing is pretty simple just keep your parts and blasting media clean and free of grease and oil

IF there is any tendency to 'stratification' or differences at depth in the solution (and I don't know that there is or is not..), a vertical orientation would be more in need of agitation to insure the treatment was uniform along the long-axis.

OTOH, I don't see a great deal preventing you from laying that length of tube down horizontally.... as if it were a trough... and/or tilt-agitating it externally.

If not to be sealed, all it might need would be a riser-tube or two of ells and pipe fitted at the end caps, hose-clamp or two around a wooden 'see-saw' rig to keep agitation travel within bounds.

Planning much the same out of schedule 40 PVC for electroless plating work on some much longer pieces here...

Vertical Parkerizing works great, but as stated above you will need agitation. I have several friends who do production parkerizing and that is how they do it.

OTOH, if its only 1 piece, you can send it to me. My tank is 10" Wide by 60" Long by 6" deep. May be cheaper to have me do it for you, than try to set up and buy everything. I built my tank for my 45" M2 barrel. Just an option, let me know if interested.

Agitation as in move the part around once a minute or continuous? Thanks for the offer Josh but where's the fun in that? I guess my 1919a4 parts would be in good company there.

No the agitation is moving the solution. A slow turning motor with a paint mixer attached would work.
I use that in my nickeling pot.
