    Default Weapons ban

If you support the rights of firearm ownership you need to read this and spread it as far and wide as you can. Put it on FB and anywhere else you can. It is an out standing article that gets the message across the right way.

Why Not Renew the “Assault Weapons” Ban? Well, I’ll Tell You… « Kontradictions

Excellent article. Should be required reading for every American, and even some politicians.

    Thanks for posting

Now is the time for personal action. Write AND email your Congressman/woman and Senators and tell them to not allow Obama to stampede them to pass gun restrictions. That subject, and especially the subjects of timely treatment of the dangerous mentally ill and school security, need to be rationally and reasonably examined before passing legislation on them.

Don't wait for someone else, or the NRA to do this for you. Time is short; do this NOW.

I am not sure that educating the left that the AWB did little to change things as the they may look at other types of bans. I agree 100% with what the author stated, but it seems a lot of the people on the TV think that the AWB would have banned all weapons capable of causing mass harm instead of the fact that it did little. Given that the "News" stations of all ilk have found it necessary to broadcast stuff about the CT shooting almost 24/7 since it happened guarantees there will be a lot (maybe most) of stuff that has little to no content worthy of no thinking person. Maybe we have Ted Koppel to thank for this type of broadcasting as he may have been the first purveyor on non news stuff with the show "Iran Hostage Crisis Day XXX", not much happened most days so it was necessary to intervoew people who themselves may have had no more info about Iran than its location.

    Some sad facts of life.

Sales is emotion based. Excitement sells. Anger sells. Hate sells.

Politics is sales based. Where can I get the most money and numbers?

Activism is sales based. Where can I get folks to march in the street, maybe get arrested, donate money, and write their elected reps.

Logic and common sense are actually offensive to those the activist and the politician speak to on more than a verbal level. Quickest way to permanently lose their audience.

It's only the few, thinking people who appreciate logic.

The audience of the politician is not seeking to be persuaded, they seek to be whipped up, and entertained with stuff they already agree on.

We have several difficult tasks ahead of us as gun owners.

    1. Take the media high ground. Today's media is froth-at-the-mouth anti-gun. Encourage gun-friendly youth to pick the media as a career. This will take decades, but is crucial. See the success of Jews, blacks, and gays. Once they had taken the media high ground, no idea could stand against them.

    2. Find the emotional argument to choose pro-gun. Not much explanation needed, here.

    3. Be willing to march, donate, write, sit in, attend town halls, even to be arrested. The group that is willing to sacrifice, even to sacrifice their bodies to the cause, will win in the end. It is the emotion of their sacrifice that will attract the media. See above. If you feel you don't want to do that, you have already given up.

    4. Teach responsible firearms ownership. Teach Eddie Eagle®, concealed carry, the NRA courses, even just teaching your children helps. If we stop, they win.

    5. Actually visit your elected reps when they are near you. Be polite. Dress for success. Let them know how you feel, and be prepared to quote numbers of your friends who feel like you. Money and numbers. Visit more than once.

    6. Band together, join clubs. Again, money and numbers.

It's the age old question you are answering, "Just how badly do you want this?"

In 1776, a major part of what the founding fathers were trying to keep from happening was the formation of a nobility. Well, we have failed.
    A nobility is/has
-immunity from laws and taxes applicable to the people.
-the ability to declare how much the people must pay them.
-the ability to pauperize, ostracise, or imprison those who refuse to do what they say.
-a "steel ceiling". It is very difficult to move into that class, as 95% return to office.
-untouchability. Only treachery by their own kind, death, or retirement ends the career.
-reverence. Even tho we dislike them, we consider them as somehow "above" us.
-inheritability. How many politicians' sons/daughters get into the same job?

We can't ban them. They can ban us, but we can't ban them.

    Food for thought.

Many of my friends are hysterical about gun control and believe that mass shootings/killings will be eliminated when guns are eliminated. They don't want to hear about the hundreds of thousands of Tutsi tribesmen killed by the Hutu Tribe in Rawanda. The Tutsis were hacked by machetes, burned and bludgeoned to death and nobody could do anything about it. Guns were not used. They had no guns.

Please consider this article as extra ammunition against Gun Control or Ban of large capacity magazines. It is a long article. I found it worth the read.

I know this may be "preaching to the choir" but anyone that thinks banning guns will make this a safe place should Google "Juan Corrona". He was a northern ca. farm worker/foreman who killed 25 farm workers and didn't need a gun. After he was caught he tried to put the blame on his brother.

But who is saying that? What they say is that it will make it a safER place. And it will, indisputably. Do you really want to claim that owning an assault rifle DOES NOT make it easier to commit mass killings? I'm sure it's fun to fire one of these things at a range, and that a lot of perfectly decent people are going to lose this enjoyment because of a ban, but that doesn't mean that there is no reason in favour of a ban: it's silly to go flat in the face of reality...

The thing to remember is you will NEVER change any liberal's mind with facts - EVER - but what you CAN do, is change the mind of someone who is 'misinformed', or 'uniformed' that may overhear you talking to the liberal -- those are the swing votes, and they matter - and it MATTERS how you come off to their ears...

A socialist is someone that demands that everyone pay for abortions, health care, and welfare, while refusing to pay for school security.

A socialist is someone that says no one can say anything about what someone else is doing, while concurrently telling everyone what they should think and how they should live.

50-years of Socialism has done what for the black community in America?

Socialist NEED ethnic people to STAY poor to keep the socialist in power.

Politics is not about facts, its about winning hearts and minds. Help a few college students start to consider those facts, like calm gentlemen.

I hope I haven't broken any rules about post content or where a post belongs - if so, my apologies.

Hmm. I am a socialist, but I don't exactly agree with any of the views you describe. Have you ever had a calm discussion with a socialist? Or even a discussion at all?

As for the not being able to change a liberal's mind with facts: don't throw stones in glass houses! Think about yourself and other conservatives: has a liberal ever been able to change YOUR mind with facts? Or do you always just angrily deny that the facts are so? Do you, in fact, do exactly what you accuse the liberal of doing?

In politics there are different ways of viewing the facts. The first step in gentlemanly discussion is to try to understand the point of view of your opponent. Flaming them and accusing them of ignoring the 'facts' is never helpful. I am in favour of strict gun control, but I understand where those who aren't are coming from, and I'm ready for a calm debate.

Seems a bit strange to me that most of the leftys / libs. think it is just fine to abort thousands of kids per year and then act so outraged when some nut job kills 20 kids. Then they donate money to the ACLU, whose lawyers make it next to impossible to commit the nut jobs and are behind closing mental hospitals and turning loose said nut jobs. Then they say ban guns, yep that will fix it, you betcha.

as much as i hate to wade into this one, i just can`t help myself with all the poorly applied definitions...

conservative,liberal,socialist,etc.,.... if one is going to attempt pigeon-hole differing positions please understand the definitions- rarely does one definition fit and there is a lot of gray area to further confuse the issue.

it is divisive and serves no one but the politicians who feed off it.

to make my position clear - IMO, a "ban" does virtually nothing but create beauracracy and armed gaurds make good targets.

eliminating media dramatization would be far more effective. no "glory" for acts of cowardice.
