Brushless timeline

Thanks Zahnrad.
So in that case, both, a late 1999 and an early 2000 year VF4 will be brushless, even though they still have the nitrogen counterbalance system.

For some reason I thought the canisters went with the advent of switching to the brushless setup.

1999 VF4 with brushless servos and nitrogen counterbalance here.

Beware of the VF-E, I think it always came with brushed motors.

Brushless are slightly cheaper to build to the same quality, somewhat more expensive electronics, higher specific power and higher peak power, plus longer service intervals.

Some time between the late 80ss and early 2000s that trade-off became increasingly compelling for CNC machines, depending on target cost and required performance.

Whats the deal with brush vs brushless?

If you're referring to my preference, then it is that I have a chance to pick up another VF4 for a very reasonable price, but I want to make sure
that all my rotaries can go on it without the conversion kits.

My 1998 VF2 was originally brushless on XYZ, but had a drive for brushed 4th in it. Was told it came that way from the factory........ Was able to replace the drive with brushless version and cable. So YMMV.........
