Older Haas, help Installing Rigid Tapping

have an older Haas, Serial No. 1725, does not have rigid tapping.
At Haas Factory Outlet recommendation, bought a kit. We custom fit & installed the new motor encoder. Hooked up the wiring per the written instructions.
Performed the spindle orientation procedure (ES0650 Rev E) that came with the new encoder.
Reset Parameter 79.
Got code from HAAS to turn Rigid Tapping on (there is a '1' behind Rigid Tapping).
But still NO Rigid tapping.
Spindle will turn on; when reaches the bottom of the stroke, it will not go into reverse, spindle turns off and rapids up.
Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Chuck

If you have never changed parameters you have to change the parameter lock / write setting to allow yourself to change parameters or the change will not save. Did you go back and verify the change?

Even if rigid tapping is not enabled, the spindle shouldn't be stopped during the return stroke.

For giggles, disable Par 79 and see what happens.

Yes, with or without rigid tap, you should not be able to tell the difference with the naked eye while it is running.

Actually sounds to me like you are using the wrong code for tapping. Should be G74 or G84 only. Like: G84 Z-.5 R.1 F50.

Uhh... Ohh... Good catch there Mike!
Sure sounds like the G86 behavior!

I have a hard time believing anyone capable enough to install a rigid tap option on a Haas machine would be using the wrong tapping cycle on a haas...:nutter:
(especially a guy who's website shows he's got 10 NC machines...)

He didn't post his code though...so who knows!
