Default Chinese made Ford's focus is popular in China

According to the latest report from China Auto Association, Focus has been sold 220,396 in the 1st half of 2012.
As one of the best selling car (ranked the 5th) Chinese customers like this car, but many people say it often has some flaws, what do you think at home ?

The focus is relatively popular here. It's classed as a compact car, so the usual buyer is looking a fuel economy first. As for flaws, every car model has its share of flaws. What those flaws are and how they affect your decision to buy is upto the buyer to decide.

As for safety, the goal for many years is to maintain the shape of the passenger compartment, and safety standards exist that all cars sold need to meet. When we see the crash test videos of the Cherry, well, it ain't pretty, and gives us time to wonder what, if any safety requirements there are in China for passenger cars.

How much does a Chinese Focus cost? North American Focus prices start at ~102000 yuan. After options, most seem to sell for around ~167000 yuan.

Since "at home" for a car made in China is China and I don't live there I don't have an "at home" opinion, but if the people of China are happy with their own products then I am happy for the people of China. But I think they would really like some of the Italian cars, too. They, at least, have some style.

    Alex,

For your question of prices, "New Focus" official price starts at 99,800 yuan up to 169,000 yuan in China. Normally the dealer in Beijing will offer 2,000-3,000 yuan further discounts so that it will start at around 97,000 I guess.

In addition, since it is made in China now, normally at least 20-30% parts would be Chinese made...

    dp,
As I knew Fiat had a JV in Nanjing(Nanking) city, but because they didn't make money, so Fiat withdrawed eventually several years ago.

By the way, Buick ranked No.2 in China, VW is always real No.1 in China as they have 2 JVs in China Although GM Shanghai sometimes claims themselves are No.1 in China.

(FAW, Great Wall and Shanghai Auto are auto makers which are enjoying relatively good reputations in China.)

Just want to add that Ford Chang'an(JV partner of Ford) this year will have a yearly capacity of 600,000 in China, this is an amazing picture! But it can be forecasted that Ford shall sell over 400,000 in China in 2012, so it could be well planned.

    2011年,福特在中国销售仅为51.9万辆,占中国汽车市场份额的2.8%.
Ford's ads are covering the sky and ground in China, in 2011, Ford sold 519,000 vehicles in China, only occupys 2.8% of Chinese market share.
More and more Chinese people like the F-150 although the price starts at $90,000!

We have our own Ford Focus factory here, so all the Focuses sold here are made here.
We only have one engine to choose from, the 2.0 liter.
In China, I understand, they come with several different 1.0 liter and 1.6 liter engines that are not available in the USA.
So its really a pretty different car.

Focus' engine for China starts at 1.6 liter.
In addition. the figure of over 519,000 for Ford including Mazda I think.
As I know, only Chevrolet supplies the mini car with 1.0 liter which targeting at the low end market with the price around $5,500.

Ford makes the 1.0 liter engine in Cologne, Germany, and soon in Craiova Romania, for Ford Focuses made in their German factory, but they say that the 3 cylinder 1.0 liter will come to North America eventually.

All of the Focuses that I drive here in the UK are the 2 litre diesels, normally the estate (shooting brake) version. They are quite acceptable cars with decent performance, cruise all day at 85 if you're taking it easy and 50Imp/40US mpg fuel consumption if you're not driving like a boy racer.

As has been discussed here many times, the UK spec diesels are not legal to import or sell in the USA, so we get none of them except the ridiculously expensive Mercedes, Audi, VW, and BMW 3 liter and above model diesel engines, with urea injection.

US air pollution standards for diesels are different from Euro ones, and only a very few diesels meet our specs. No diesel Focus is sold here.

According to Chinese media, Ford is considering to close a factory in England and or Belgium while increasing capacity in China.
Here is Great wall's new model competing with Focus(90,000-150,000 yuan)
