Pete, very well spoken!
I had to look up dressage, I admit. I had heard the word mentioned on the news about Romneys' old ladys' horse. Interesting point you made about it being a tax deduction for them!
To the phrase "fair share" that the conservatives want to cast in a bad light. Nothing wrong with everyone-that means ALL of us -rich and poor- paying their fair share, especially when they pay their fair share on every last bit of income.
The poor schmuck working at McD's pays tax on all his income. He has no deductions. Mitt doesn't pay taxes on all his income, no doubt, because he has tax accountants devise a plan on how to hide and shield it- like buying a frickin' horse to use as a tax write-off!
I couldn't stand there with a straight face, getting away with the stuff they do, and complain about some poor S.O.B. getting welfare and a free cellphone! That's a drop in the bucket in the big scheme of things. Romney probably wastes more money on that horse than a burger flipper earns in three years!!!!

Don't think about how much tax someone's paying. Think about how much they've got left after paying it. If you can afford to buy another yacht, you aren't hurting.

"Lemme ask your professional opinion on what exactly happened to the increased property tax revenues in those wonderful municipalities?"
Do you understand what the libor scandal really means?
LOndon InterBank Rate
This is a rate used to set the returns on various instruments like municipal bonds.
Municipal bonds are investements that a town makes with their money. The higher the
rate of return, the lower there property taxes, for example, can be.
The banks compared notes behind the scenes and illegally colluded to set the rates at an
artificially low level.
It would be the same thing if all the grocery stores in your area got together and said,
all out bread is 10 dollars per loaf. But there's a free market, the free market is setting
that 10 dollar price.
How come your grocery bill is now 1000 dollars a week?
Are you a bad person, are you wasting money? How come all of a sudden you
don't have enough money for food? It's because of a criminal monopoly that raped you
up the ass.
Except here the money isn't in the thousands. It's TRILLIONS of dollars that are being
ripped off from muni bonds so the bankers can retain their TOO BIG TO FAIL stature.
Yes their taxes had to go up. Because their investments were destroyed by criminal
insider trading. Where'd the extra money GO you ask.
Um, to the bankers who perpetrated this fraud. Get out the ropes.

Jim
My property tax for a condo in 1997 was $1075/year.
In 2007 when we sold the property it was $1923/year.
I wasn't anything special, everyone else's tax rate went up by a similar amount.
So I repeat the question: Where did the increased revenues go?
My town has it BTW, no shortfalls here, nor the immediate risk of bankruptcy.

It's sooooo COOL how that wealth trickles down...well at least something does.

Well $300 of that was eaten by cost of living adjustment(inflation).
Did any roads get bigger?
Did the water system grow?
Did your town become a nicer place to live?
How much did you buy your place for...how much did it sell for?
What is the percentage change of the two metrics?

Yup, all of the above.
And as I've said, we're ( the town ) is doing fine.
But what about those other poor municipalities in trouble?

...derivatives for the most part, poor decisions in some cases, poor management occasionally, the rare fraud...
A lot of what happened was the same as everyone else, they were betting on a rigged game, when the bankers pulled the plug they were left holding the bag.

Seymour, I don't know if Gordon just automatically assigns me a "dislike", because I am me. he DID say he TRIED to "Ignore" me but just HAD to see what I had to say, perhaps for entertainment value. I suppose some of what I say CAN be funny.
YOU say it is "roma". This says it is variable. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...Rw5EbS2-qR1j-w
My people, and I do speak Serbo-Croat, called them "cigan".. That "c' is uttered like a "ts", "tsi", hard for one not one of us to master.
Seymour, do you believe, BORN here, in a coal mining patch, raised by Serbian Parents AYE could not speak English until I went to grade school? My aunt's liked to tell our new Priest Ovo je nas netjak kojo dosla od Kraju. Ja sam star, el njesam benest.
"Oh, the hell with the rope, just get out your pitchforks and go to town."
That makes me think you came from Rumania, and please don't correct me, it is ROmania on maps, it is RUmania in RUmania. Caucescue and all that.
Care to comment on that?
It IS becoming political, and we have a National Election within 100 days. I would expect no less. I would not vote for your candidate if you shoved bamboo splinters up my nails. Nothing Romnet has said has given me ONE reason to trust him. How much have YOU in your IRA. HE has from 20 to 100 MILLION, in his IRA, and the LIMIT is 5 thou per year.
Somebody is fucking somebody, and most likely the USG to put 100 MILLION, or less, maybe just 20 MILLION, into a tax deferred account. IMPOSSIBLE. According to the "Tax Code".
I kinda think lots of you who are die hard Reps are going to change your minds. You have the Devil you know, and you are not going to vote for a Devil you are VERY leery of.
e-mail inbox, today, Washington Times, I think, "Do not Warn Defense Workers that they will lose their jobs after Jan.1", when the "Cliff" comes into play.
This is a game of "Chicken". Who blinks first. Reps tell everybody they will lose their jobs if we fall off the "cliff". Reps will not pass ANY Bills, unless huge tax breaks for those who are WAY richer than YOU are instituted into Law.
Never mind. I need not converse with you NOR Gordon.
Small,
"Well wait a minute, I thought that's what the unions did. Take care of the pensions. Is there a problem?"
There is, INDEED a problem. MOST UNIONS have no say whatsoever of what happens with the Pension Funds. I was fortunate to work fo a steel mill, we are covered by the Carnegie Pension Trust. I do not get MY Pension FROM the Steel Mill.
UAW has a Pension Trust, outside the Companies, that allowed Obama to honor their Ownership OF those BILLIONs IN that Trust. THAT is why they had what amounted to a "First Mortgage" on those funds that so many of you think fucked over all them "speculators". I don't think there has ever been a bankruptcy foreclosure, which this certainly was, where the Stockholders, totally unsecured, ever got as much support as any here think they should have
Some of you think "Speculators" should have been first in line to be made whole, I have bought a few stocks, and ALL my money was "at risk". No recourse. I cannot sue you because you flimflammed me, I am a grownup, I either KNEW the risks, or I learned the risks.
I still buy on occasion but I think I am more careful. I ain't making much MONEY, but it ain't costing me much, either.

And I'll get out of this right after....
I made every effort to speak english as soon as I got here.
My kids were bilingual right out of the gate, tough the younger one is stubborn enough to speak the "dead language" of Hungarian only when it's either necessary or when it's cool.
No, I'm not from ROmania, never been there and don't care to either.
Cigan is close, but actually spelled cigány.
See ya.

MichaelP,
" As for hating the rich, the only thing I can suggest is not to bite a hand that feeds you. If your SSI and Medicare will depend on the taxes paid by the poor, I won't envy you. The same can be said about getting employed.
Like
5 axis Fidia guy likes this."
Hey, jackoff, I worked 50 fucking years to earn MY SS, I ain't ON SSI!!! 5 axis guy, fuck you, too. You "Like" too quick. Maybe it is just me,, Gordon said the same, but his was an "Ignore". Why don't you just ignore me?
Lots of replies since my next before last. You ALL decided you had to make comment?
Gordon, first.
'I can't believe (being as frail as you claim to be) that you'd mouth off in real life as you do in here and not be hobbling about on crutches from all the fights you'd have been in."
I haven't been in a fight for at least 30 years, I do not hobble about on crutches, and if I came face to face with you, as I have iterated, and you were as abrasive as you are ONline, I would trade blows with you. I would definitely NOT drink a beer with you. You are abrasive to me, and that is just over the Internet. You MUST be less likeable in person, stands to reason. Whatever. Ignore, for now.
Willbird,
Who the hell are you trying to bullshit? he has DECLARED that he has "between 20 and 100 MILLION" in an IRA, and THEY are capped at 5 THOU per year!
YOU explain THAT, since you are so up on how POOR Romney is.
Willbird,
NO SIR, you lie again!!!
When YOU say "The proposed tax increase is WAY more than 15%." , you know not wherefore you speak.
FIRST, the top tax rate WAS 35%, THEN it was increased to 39.6%, WHICH was less than 15% increase. But that was before Bush the Younger decided to pay all his benefactors, his 'BASE" back. He did that in spades.
Now, YOU say that YOU pay too much, and I would wager that at least 1/2 of the posters, here, on the "Professional" side do not CLEAR 50 thou to pay taxes on, I would doubt there is one in a 100 who makes over 250 Thou, AFTER deductions, AGI/
Not a fucking word of ALL the rhetoric, other than Romney wants to raise YOUR taxes to pay for HIS tax CUTS for the RICH. YOU will pay MORE, THEY will pay less, it is a wash, forget about it, just see who is the most photogenic.
We have the DUMBEST Forum ON the Internet, from whom I read responses We even have a Dane who is too stupid to listen to as to our Political outcomes.
Have fun.

Seymour,
I was off to bed, posted, you had a reply.
Cigani is a plural, cigan is one Gypsy. Note the "i' to make it plural, not the "y"
I am sorry that you don't want your kids to learn another language, even your mother tongue. I spoke Serbian because both MY parents WERE Serbian, I am one of the few in my area who WERE allowed to learn it. Most of my age were not taught, it was the "secret language" parents spoke when they did not want the kids to know what they were speaking of.
Most ALL of my generation know all the swear words. The Old Man smacks his thumb with a hammer, "jebate ja". Literally,, "Fuck me, How in the Hell could I do that? OR, it could be does THAT sonovabitch HURT!?!?!?
I wish you would reconsider, they might still retain enough to learn more languages. Monolingual people are harder to train in other languages than those who already have at least the rudiments of another language.

George (gmatov), you're unbelievable and you can take that any way you want.
Just because someone doesn't agree with you or think as you do doesn't have to mean that they are retarded, stupid, biggoted, rascistic, rich, poor or vote for another political party than the one you do.
You're more than capable of being both sensible and lucid in parts of your posts but tend to spoil it more often than not by going into a rant where you claim everyone is an imbecile - in your not so humble opinion.
There are those I disagree with but I nevertheless enjoy reading what they write. Respect is very much a two way street.

Bearing in mind I know very little about Romney then he's just finished a trip over here. He visited Britain, Israel and Poland. In all 3 countries it was like watching a bull in a china shop and I don't mean the type where meals are eaten with chopsticks What didn't get broken got badly chipped.
I honestly don't know if his advisors suck or he's doing an imitation of Palin on foreign knowledge and policy. I doubt if Americans will hear much about the trip.

Who employed you and gave you an opportunity to work and support your family for 50 years: the poor?
And who is supplying the major portion of the money you get while not working? Does it come from the tax paid by the poor?
Why did your parents decide to emigrate to the US? Weren't they looking for a better life? Wouldn't they be happy to make a decent living or, God forbid, even become rich? Would you hate them if they managed to make it happen?

Although you didn't address this question (statement?) to me, let me try. 5 thou a year is the portion that's tax deferred. The rest is not and is taxable at 6% per year. I'm not much into accounting, but I guess it may be one of the ways to lower overall tax on a large income. Maybe not. Besides, there are many other forms of retirement accounts that permit much greater flexibility than a simple IRA.
I'm not a fun of Romney either (as I wasn't a fun of the latest Bush and Co.), but it doesn't mean they're thieves. As it doesn't necessarily mean that one is an asshole or a moron if he's a democrat. Unless he does his best to sound like one, of course.
In any case, I'd hate to participate in the fight on "republicans vs. democrats". I don't think that it belongs to the topic or the forum itself.
