Nonfarm payroll employment remained unchanged in August, and the unemployment rate stayed steady at 9.1%, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported. Manufacturing jobs remained essentially unchanged - losing about 3,000 jobs - following a gain of 36,000 jobs in July.
