Carl Bass steps down as CEO of Autodesk

Oldwrench,

I hate to say it, but get over it. Subscription is here to stay. $1,300 a year vs $8-14,000 every 4 years (discount was only available if upgraded in under 3 versions), for Inventor that is, if you wanted to be able to open up available source drawings from customers or suppliers, without having to constantly ask for them to backsave it to an older version. IIRC LT was $5-7,000

--The constant flow of cash from the subscription funds the development, if you notice there are more updates now that effect the usage and visual aspects of the drawings. This also fixes the problem of pirate software, as there were too many people buying 1 license and installing it on many computers. This was partially fixed when they had the program calling home every 60-90 days, but if the program was only started when computer was offline, then it would continue to work.
