80% of US citizens would apparently like to see the Republican-controlled House-Senate-Presidency do their job -- not do a third or fourth continuing funding. We've had a bipartisan agreement, supported by the vast majority (80+%) of US citizens, to keep kids who've grown up here in the only country they've known, to fund the military, to enhance border security, etc. Republicans could also do a straight up vote as well -- they just don't want to look like complete idiots. Better to make stew out of everything, so it can be "spun," than be held nakedly accountable for simple laws. Build a trillion dollar wall? Vote and pay for it. Kick out the kids. Vote and enforce it.

Main reason we're at an impasse is because Mitch McConnell thinks he can make some political hay out of it. Judging by your response, he's apparently right about that.

Could also point the finger at Trump, who promised to accept the bipartisan agreement to keep the govt. funded, keep from kicking out the DACA kids, fund the military, fund enhanced border security etc. You'll recall that a couple far righters whispered in his ear, Trump decided to call countries with brown and black people shitholes, and he sabotaged that deal -- one he'd promised a couple days earlier to support.

Could also point the finger at Schumer who, like McConnell, thinks there's a political point to be made. That would actually make a bit of sense if the Republicans had been bargaining in good faith, hadn't gone back on their word, had a budget and a vote, and didn't actually have a majority in all three branches.

'bout the only good to come out of this from a far right perspective is that folks are getting so embarrassed to be or become US citizens that immigration is way down.

Tell em to lighten up. Military pay will still come.
Some of the civilian contractors may have issues.

Funny how the thugs wave the flag when it suits them, but shut things down in 2013.
Truth is if they cared about the people they represent, they'd listen to them and fix DACA...they hold both chambers and the wh.
If things aren't getting done it's their fault.

Guess nobody would pull this crap on us if Kim Jong-un was running things...

    So things could be worse...

Actually if the government and we the people keep getting more stupid we may end up like that.

Several Democrats and Republicans have proposed bills yesterday and today to keep paying the military. McConnell has refused to allow a vote on them- he is playing politics, and thinks he can win if he refuses to compromise.
Brown's bills would pay military but not Congress during shutdown | vindy.com

I do think its a bit weird to call buying a car "trying to create credit", though. Taking out a loan to buy a car is OK if you know you can afford it, but to do it if you have zero savings and depend on every paycheck to pay back the loan is not very prudent- one unforseen expense, of any sort, and you miss a payment? I bought used cars, cheap, until I 40, and had money in the bank... Kids today.

Don't worry guys, I'm sure the republicans will get it all sorted out in due time. After
all they control the house, the senate, the presidency, and the USSC.

If they really have trouble getting their members in line, maybe nancy pelosi could give
them some pointers. In the meantime we can just enjoy republicans tripping over themselves.

I think I'd have to go back to the Vietnam time to see a USA as divided as it is today.

What's even worse, if that's possible, is that the divide gets wider every day as "left" and
"right" move further and further apart. Is there anyone in the "middle"?

Your government, whoever that is, should be giving that top priority.

The left is pretty stable. Reagan was left of the current right.
And you have to go back to the civil war to see things this polarized.
Or you can look at the depression to see that the thugs are only interested in the big oil and extractive industries, nothing changed there.

This is how stupid the Republicans are, if they passed a clean continuing resolution, with no right wing BS on Obamacare repeal tucked in , and brought it to a vote, it would then become the Democrats problem, but noooooooooo

we must get our way and you must vote our way and we will give nothing

how is that working for you?

and then trumpski veering back and forth, no one know what he will sign.

Here's a clue, pass a clean continuing resolution, if he won't sign it, it is now all on him

Remember, Republicans control 2 branches of gov't, if they want a favor from Democrats, they are going to have to pay for it

    literally........

Meanwhile, MAGA (Making America Gullible Again):

Twitter found 5,258 Russian bots, Trump interacted with many of them - Business Insider

Twitter's Russia investigation should look at Trump's use of bots - Business Insider

In addition, "more than 14 million" of Trump's followers on Twitter are fakes. I'm less worried about him paying a porn star to stroke him and then shut up about it than the apparent 14 million strokes to his ego.

On the evidence of the past 12 months, that just ain't so.

    - Nobody seems to control Trump, least of all Trump himself.

    - House Ripofflicans can't very often control even their own factions.

    - Senate Ripofflicans just demonstrated the same.

    - The judiciary usually does as it sees fit on any given case,"party labels" as-at day they were sworn in (decades ago, for many..) or no. The Judiciary seems pleased to count it a "success" when all sides are equally pissed-off and no one side is especially pleased.

Meanwhile, the Dumbocraps are not one wit better-off.

They can get agreement often enough to NOT do <flavour of the week>, but cannot get agreement to DO <flavour of another week> - no matter WHAT is negotiated or put to a vote.

Schumer is trying to herd opportunistic alley cats. Pelosi IS one.

    "Control"? How?

The Federal Government is dysfunctional. Some, not all, of the State Governments are in a bad way also. Others, not. We have rather a lot of COUNTY economies larger than whole nations. Some are doing a grand job. Others, not.

In a Federal Republic, that mix isn't really a BAD thing.

The rest of the country is better-off and makes more pragmatic and wiser decisions when left TF alone by EITHER/BOTH Federal and State Governments, anyway. County or City level, we can better deal with.

I do not credit economic improvement to ANY Prez or to Congress. Not now, not historically. The whole lot are but passengers.

It is up to the other 320-odd millions to make changes. As they have been and will do.

Good. Shut the whole damn thing down. Maybe make enough people mad enough about US being deprived of our government because some assbreath Congressman doesn't get his way and maybe we'll see someone, somewhere learn something. I doubt it, they all have their heads so far up their butts that it seems unlikely, but maybe.

It was bullshit when the Republicans pulled this stunt and they paid for it at the box office. The Democrats are apparently so stupid they can't figure that out. Spoiled little Chuckie has no right to shut down my entire government because he can't get his way otherwise.

Bite me, Democrats. I have always disliked the Republicans but the donkey party is proving itself even worse.

afterthought : In fact, if I were the Trump, and he might have the balls to do this but I doubt it, I'd REALLY shut the entire government down. The whole thing. And no pay to any government workers for the days off. And no services whatsoever. ALL of it, Army Navy air traffic Coast Guard, Social Security offices, VA hospitals, FBI, TSA, the whole enchilada. Then let Chuckie explain to the country why we should sacrifice the government we pay taxes for so that he could push his widdow pwogwam thwough Congwess. The pwogwam he doesn't have enough votes to pass otherwise.

The Democrat's move is called extortion. Most of us don't like extortion. I wonder how standing up to it would play out ?

So let me get this...you wanna go and win a bike race, but i have the part that allows you to enter the race, but you are unwilling to pay the price, and somehow it is my fault that you are disqualified. The repubs are in charge it is their job to keep the lights on, they need the votes to make that happen. The dems have the votes, they set the price, the repubs were unwilling to pay the price, the repubs turned of the lights, it is their fault that the government is shut down, It is always the majority who is responsible for keeping the lights on. They felt the compromise the dems demanded was not worth the price, The Dumpfer and the GOP owns this clear and without question. Now you may not like the fact that the dems set the price too high, but the republicans needed the votes and they were not willing to cough up the cost. Reverse the table, assume that the dems were in charge and the rainbow coalition in the dems was withholding the needed votes, and the Repubs refused cough the votes without getting some concession and the dems were more interested in sucking up to the rainbow gang, would that be the repubs fault that the deal did not materialize? Have you ever heard the expression opposition party? In that second scenario the fault be with the dems.
