Actually, members of Congress and congressional staffers get their insurance on the D.C. Obamacare exchange. They get Gold plans, and the taxpayer picks up (IIRC) 75% of the tab, which is the same "employer contribution" that FEHB beneficiaries receive.

They created a special provision in the law that defines the US Congress a "small business", and they receive the S.B. rates.

Executive and Judicial branch employees, and retirees get their insurance under FEHB. The exception is military, their families, and military retirees which use the VA and/or Tri-Care.

Why isn't a similar deal available to all? Tax paid healthcare

What's described sounds like communism as practiced in USSR days. Party members (only 2% of the population) got all the benefits. 98% of the population paid for it.

Walter Reed medical center is a government run hospital only for government employees. That is why I called it a socialist hospital run by the government.
According to Trump it would better serve the people if was a money making enterprise.

Actually, it is a hospital for the military and their beneficiaries. Therefore it is technically a VA hospital.

The idea of a hospital being "a money making enterprise" means that it isn't for all. Even in countries with tax funded healthcare there are private hospitals but these aren't for all either.

Of course I'd be lying if I didn't like the thought that I had enough money to do everything I wanted and need, including healthcare and a doctor available 24/7 "just in case".

Negative. Walter Reed is an Army hospital. It's not part of the VA system, it's part of the DoD.

How often IRL does this situation occur?

Unlucky gunman accidentally targets group including off-duty cop - YouTube

He died later from 3 shots to the chest.

BTW I think she did the right thing as he was pointing a gun at kids.

More often than you think. Subject video is from Brazil, IIRC. Lots of off duty cops and criminals seems to coincide there.

Good for him, the kids, and the cop involved. Stupidity has consequences, play stupid games and win stupid prizes. I hope that lady cop is lauded by her peers and sleeps well at night.

Here's a recent one from TX, no shots fired. You have to look for these stories, as the media will not report them because they do not fit the narrative. Just like the school shooting yesterday, shooter stopped by a good guy with a gun.

The youtube channel Active Self Protection has a new video every day. Seems 80% or more come out of Brazil.

It is most certainly an eye opener channel. How quickly attacks happen. How shot people most of the time don't go down.

I think it's more appropriate to say it doesn't fit your narrative -- the first line in the article you linked is:

"CBS affiliate KWTX reports that Laura Williams was at her home in Limestone County, Texas with her 17-year-old daughter Hannah, when she was jolted awake by the sound of her doorbell ringing."

Their source was, in fact, the mainstream media.

Huh. I searched cbsnews.com with several iterations of the search criteria of the subject, with zero results.

Same at BBC, CNN, FoxNews, and ABC.

I guess the minor affilate licensed in Waco TX, and serving Waco, Temple, and Killeen Texas will have to stand in as 'mainstream media'. It must have made national and international news, and just failed to show up.

Do you honestly think a story about an attempted burglary would make the national news? Most murders do not make the national news. This story is practically the definition of "local news."

Guess it's just a question of how frequently murders occur. Here a murder will make the front page at least a week.

Some perspective: the state of Texas, where the attempted burglary occurred, had nearly 1500 murders in 2016.

I lived in Waco for a number of years KWTX is a local TV station CBS I believe. They actually get a lot of good news like the shootout between police, the Banditos and the biker club in opposition to them at a local place that has all pretty young women serving food. Not a dancing strip club yet still professional shady.

Here in Texas I think at least schools of a larger size and tax rate support have at least one armed police officer armed. Evidently in Santa Fe HS there were two engaged the shooter within four minutes. There ensued a gun fight for twenty five minutes until the shooter surrendered.

Someone once posted that Denmark would be too boring for him. I'll take boring any time. I also believe it gives me more freedom.

Burglary almost never results in murder.

    • Denmark: number of homicides 27-217 | Statistic

Denmark vs United States Crime Stats Compared

List of countries by firearm-related death rate - Wikipedia

This, from another link, surprised me but not very much.

Denmark: Average monthly disposable salary > After tax $3,269.62 Ranked 11th
USA: . About the same $3,258.85 Ranked 12th.

The key word is "disposable" as much of what you pay "extra" for in the USA is "free" here. Free as in tax financed and available for all.

Most of you are being screwed but either don't know or like it.

A article on Texas. Texas' murder rate went up again last year, remains relatively low | The Texas Tribune

A lot of people are moving here also.
