OT - Something for Gordon Clarke - The Only Way to Save the American Dream

thats the link to Matt O'Brien;s article. Economically clueless, he uses the word Socialism in the first line as what America needs. He does not know what the word means.

http://www.nber.org/papers/w22465.pdf

Here's the Landerso and Heckman article. Its typical and like any good economics paper, is un-emotive, un-political.....just the facts and analysis please ma'am. Being economists, they know what socialism is and do not use the word once in the 73 page document because it has nothing to do with what Denmark is. O'Brien should be fired for taking what they said and implying the S word is good - this creates a lot of damage in that your country all of sudden think socialism is something it is not. Imagine if they all demanded that from your politicians and they listened?

We'd better offer with more Landerso and Heckman's being read than O'Brien's.

I thought the over the top thread title was sufficient. I didn't think I'd need a smiley face in the text to make clear that this posting was just for fun.

It's always interesting to read what others think of what we have and how we do things. Several PM members don't seem to share that sentiment :)

I honestly don't know why Denmark is so often mentioned in American politics. It could just as easily be Sweden or Norway, Finland and Iceland too for that matter. Hmm maybe the US media read PM :D

I couldn't read anything factually wrong in the link but I'm sure some read that we're all jumping for joy on a daily basis and that we think everything is just fine and dandy. That is definitely not the case but I suppose the biggest difference is that we don't have the same degree of outright hostility to those we don't agree with.

I suppose it also helps we have 10 political parties in parliament we can distribute our dislike among :) Of those 10 parties there are two (but only in my head) that I'd like to see lined up against a wall and shot.

National elections are mandated to be held every 4th year but can be called at any time if the prime minister decides to. Looks like we might be getting one soon after the present government has only been in power 1 year. The heated issue causing this situation? TAXES LOL One party wants the richest to pay less tax and if they don't get what they want have threatened to withdraw their support to the present government.

To my mind probably the biggest difference between "thinking" Danish to American is that the majority feel that what we get from our taxes is worth it. Of course not all agree with that. Can't make everyone happy.

problem is I don't know you, if I did I might have chuckled.....but it is not at all far fetched someone would post that in earnest.

My response was mainly a poke at those who get their educations from likes of the world's Obrien's and as a result don't know their ass from a hole in the ground on the subject.

Secretly I'm also trying to save the planet; so many DO erroneously think that what Denmark has is a socialist economy that if enough of the dunces think they want socialism and ask for it we just might get it (did I need to put a smilie on that?)
