Tesla advertising in Australia tool and die role

thats good news,eh?
Some of his tooling has been creeping into the Detroit area, the work I know of is plastic molds.
I think the fella could use some Detroit smarts, seems he is too proud to ask,
or, doesn't want to pay?

I think Elon Musk is learning that it is much easier to build 100 autos than to build 50,000.

What works for a venture capitalist in developing a product is much different than extending the initial design into a mass production environment.

I bet they are recruiting Australians because their American workforce is getting too smart and starting to organize unions.

I don't think they are going to find a toolmaker with a bachelors degree.

Oh I think they will. Australians are stongly encouraged to study at Batchelor or higher levels and then specialise in practical professions. Properly qualified Aussies are sought after around the world in many professions. I suspect that is going to be the bigger issue. Finding someone who wants to go the USA - instead of Europe, Japan, Korea or Vietnam... all countries with better conditions for qualified professionals... think healthcare, personal safety, pay rates, discrimination....

Of course they do not tell the prospective workers that the pay offered will not allow them to live in a house much less buy one In one of the most expensive real estate markets in the world. I looked it up median price is just under one million so $4,000 month mortgage with a $100,000 down payment. So about $48,000 per year mortgage.
The ad says you must be a Australian national. I think this is so they can pay you below USA wage rates. Why else would they care what nationality you are as long as you can legally work in the USA?
Bill D.

I don't think they will have much luck then. Australian wages/salaries at that level are higher than in the USA, with MUCH better social/retirement/healthcare employer contributions. Why would an Aussie put their career at risk working the US without significantly higher income than at home?

Have to agree with that. The hourly rates I see quoted here as good money in the USA are pathetically low by my standards. OK the AUD isn't worth as much as a USD but when you add in the health care, retirement etc etc here, there really isn't much attraction in working in the USA. Not to mention the paid leave. A week's paid vacation? Give me a break!

I worked in the USA for a while but software development is a lot better paid and even so I still came home again. I liked the SW USA but Australia is a much nicer place to live & raise a family.
