Cat moving some stuff back to US

A Canadian company, Linamar, has moved into a plant here where Volvo formerly assembled wheel loaders. They're in the process of hiring about 400 people to supply parts to Cat's new plant in Winston Salem. Pay for plant work at Linamar is supposed to average about $40K which is pretty good for this area which is primarily focused on fleecing tourists, renting hotel rooms for $250/nite, and all the minimum wage jobs that go along with that crap.

Interesting bit is that china now makes a lot of large heavy equipment and it will soon hit the markets here, at quite a bit less $ than the regular brands, and apparently pretty good quality(still to be determined in action eh).

There definitely is $ in mini excavators though, 60-80K for a mini is pretty ridiculous, but people are paying it for that fancy landscaping.

Making something in the country you sell it in actually makes sense of course. But since so much is made somewhere else and brought to the US, it would be nice for us to do the same at least once in a while. I remember as a kid seeing tons of Cat stuff loaded on ships going all over the world. Boy, those days are gone.
