Chinese history taught to their people is for about 300 years the British shipped opium to China from India or basically were drug smugglers. the emperor tried to stop eventually and was forced to agree to allow it. this caused problems in China and they are taught this is why for 300 years Chinese technology did not advance much cause of drug addiction cause by foreign powers
    .
Shanghai (there are 5 major port cities) had areas in city basically the European powers had large areas setup for shipping or import export. hugh buildings were built in the European style for the foreigners.
    .
if you research India they will say they originated crucible steel and basically were making advanced tool steel well before the Europeans and the British basically copied the technology.
    .
just saying history is often taught quite different from the American style history taught to Americans
    .
so question is what is made in America that is truly came from USA only and not something copied from another country ??? quite a lot of technology comes from Europe. Space program had a lot of Germans helping

    .
and the facts are it is very difficult for Chinese woman to get a tourist visa to the USA and the USA requires
    1) proof of job in China
    2) proof of owning property in China (house in China)
    3) proof you are going back to China for example leaving a husband or child behind in China
    4) signed affidavit a American will support the Chinese visitor as long as in the USA
    5) police report showing not convicted of a crime (have to prove you are law abiding)
    .
if a American goes to American consulate with a Chinese girl friend and says wants a tourist visa and wants to show USA to girlfriend before marriage the tourist visa 99.99% of time is denied. definitely not showing going to return to China. facts are not easy to get American visa for Chinese woman. even American married to a Chinese woman often visa can take over a year. sometimes less but often longer wait.

I've just bought a Huawei P10 and after just a day very much impressed. I know it isn't "unique" as such but it certainly seems at least as good as all other alternatives.

Fixed that for you. Old and ugly with assets in China have no problem. It's the young pretty ones who get denied.

Not everybody at the consulate is totally stupid

Looks like a good phone. Photo capabilities are pretty advanced. How does the cost compare to top of the line Samsung and Apple IPhone.

Also, did you buy if locally or do they ship from China?

    Woks.

    They make lots of woks.

Someone once started a thread here looking for advice on how to make a wok in the USA.. Best answer he got was to buy an import.

HOPEFULLY you need a couple of these just hanging around, ideally 4-5.

Little respirators of course. Then when the air quality monitor tells you that you are about to die, you can text your friends and family a copy of your last will and testament, and they have time to put on their respirators so they can collect your bequest.

    Progress is good.

Baby formula/ powdered milk has been a big import item for China. The consumer in China does not trust locally made powders. This year they have contracted in Quebec to make a massive factory to produce powder to be shipped to China.

Ya know, I haven't had the flu since I've been here ? I wonder if it's export-only, we aren't allowed to catch it without a big re-import duty ?

Or maybe the air is so bad it kills the germs ?

Bought locally. I have 3 phone shops in my local shopping mall less than 10 minutes from where I live. Was set up for me while I waited and no extra cost.

Seemed about the same price as others similar except of course Apple (iPhone) that always seem to be much more expensive than others. Still have my iPhone but my Hauwei P10 is bigger and more advanced.
