Default I need some dies made - Hobbyist preferred

    Hello

I am trying to get a set of dies made that will enable me to widen the
scope of my hobby from medieval chainmail craft into scalemail craft.
I am not an engineer, but I know what I am looking for and I have put
    together a drawing.

    die_designs.jpg

    or see this link

    http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...96386779_n.jpg

The dies are meant for use in a 1/2 tonne arbour press

The material to be processed will be a 1mm mid to hard temper Aluminium

I will leave tolerances up to the individual who takes on the job.

Exact measurements I will also leave up to the individual who takes on the job. Just
so long as the end result is roughly as expected.

The cutting edges on the punching and stamping dies should be tempered
and concave to optimize the force requirement as much as possible.

It would be great if a hobby die maker came forward for this because
as a hobbyist myself, we can appreciate each other and our goals. I
do not wish to have my scalemail design mast produced in a factory, I
want the joy of making them myself.

Trying to get these dies made has been a terribly painfull experience for
me, and that might be due to my own lack of engineering knowledge, making
it difficult for me to get the job done by a factory.

A quote for this would be really great

    Thanks

If it would be of any use, I could provide a DXF of the
cutting part of the male and female cutting die. As this is the
only part with a complicated shape.

    Also

Just because I have styled the concave in a certain way, it
really doesnt matter how it is styled, just so long as it gets
    the job done I guess.

I am confused by what I see. In post 1 I see a set of dies to make an oval with two holes. In post 2 I see what looks like a horse collar. No indication of quantity. Are there multiple parts or one? Do you expect to run these parts yourself in a 1/2 ton hand press? What about cost per part and die cost? If the oval part is what you want, I would suggest a small progressive die with hand feed.

I would like to know how much it will cost me to get one set of each die.
I would describe it more of a teardrop more so than an oval but ok.
The end result should be a single tear drop part with 2 holes and a slight bend
I expect to make them one by one on my arbor press
To get the parts manufactured for me, it would cost around 90 pence for
teardrop, which is no good to me, I might need thousands and I dont want
them mass produced for me, I want to do it myself one by one, at my own
pace in my own spare time.

The second image just illustrates the cutting die with a concave type
shape to the blade, I posted it to simply illustrate that I am capable of
doing it in 3d, if it needs to be done in 3d, but I would rather not.

Hope that clears up any confusion

I have no dog in this fight, but what you need to do is make a print of the PART that you want to produce and let the die experts design and make the die set for you. Suggest nothing about how the tooling should be made or designed. Leave that up to the experts, and you're going to be a LOT happier with how this all works. It sounds like you're hovering over the process, and at best, that's annoying. At worst, it will make people not want to work with you at all. I just fired a customer for roughly the same thing.

Thank you for that no-bull response and I wish I could have had it a few weeks
ago, least that way I would have had less headaches :-)

    Ok

I want dies to create this part

    http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...13560393_n.jpg

Dies will work in Arbor Press
    1mm Aluminium will be used

Is that more appropriate? because that was a dam sight easier for me lol

I make a die just like that I sell them on my website they are 22 dollars they are used by the people like yourself who make chain mail. Check it out Potter USA .com they are called pancake dies they are much cheaper than a traditional die but work well for what you are doing.

Yes. Please check the date of first thread. But, at least it isn't years old like I have seen before
