Thread: Looking for grind shops in the Rockford, Il area

I am looking for other sources of grinding in the Rockford, Il area. We currently have 3 different suppliers we use, but they are so busy and their lead time is much longer than we can afford to have. If there is anyone within approximately a 50 mile radius of Rockford that provides any or all of the following: OD, ID, centerless, and surface grinding, please contact me at

Absolute on 11th street for centerless but he's pretty busy, you may already know that.
M&W for OD/ID work or Jerry at REAL on Magnolia st. I'm sure he isnt busy but maybe not real interested in getting that way either.

I am in Milwaukee but can do pick up and delivery. We have I.D., O.D. Up to 24" x 144", blanchard to 84", recriprocating verticle spindle up to 36" x 240" and surface up to 36" x 168".

Recently I picked up some work due to the fact the rockford shops are not doing well on delivery right now.

I do not have centerless but have been workimg with a shop in the Milwaukee area for the last 40 years and could point you in their direction.

Aaron, you posted this same thing about a year ago and I e-mailed you about 4 shops or so that do exceptional grind work. Maybe you want to be more specific in what you are asking for. Do you have lots of hard parts you need ground to open tolerances or x-tol. gage work you need ground in temp. controled clean rooms with calibration certs? Is ID grinding jig grinders or standard chuckers? Blanchard or standard surface grind? Help us out some.

Cash is right, everyone in and around Rockford is busy right now. The real shortage seams to be help not machine capacity, what a shame. I know several places won't even take new customers.

It's outside your range, but Cobb Industrial Grinding here in East Peoria has centerless, surface, OD and Blanchard grinding. Prices are very good, lead times can be long depending on their work load.
