    Default Need parts made

Hello everyone. I am no machinist but I made these parts for the R&D, but I can't produce them to sell. I am looking to have 100 of each piece made. The sprocket is for a #35 roller chain, but the teeth are truncated somewhat, 3/16 thick and 1 1/4 diameter. The other turned pieces are from 1" stock, but I would not mind sprocket teeth on the one piece with the raised center. I just could not make it with teeth with the materials I had on hand. I would like the turned pieces made from bronze as shown or stainless if it would be less expensive. I do not want a steel that will rust. The ell bracket I made out of stainless steel and like the look of it, but it could be plain steel and powder coated. The long leg is 2" the short leg is 1 1/4. The parts are being drawn up in cad and will be available after the 4th of July. The angle brackets are standard 1 1/4". Most likely this will not be a one time order (if all goes well). Interested parties can reach me here or a chainlegvise@gmail.com cad drawings will be forwarded to responders when they are available. Thank you very much for your time. Jim

    Just a note of caution...

Please don't drive your vendor crazy with the "well, hell, he made that look easy, and since I would prefer..."
    behavior.

You asked for it, you said you would settle for it, somebody made one piece to ensure they understood you, DON'T CHANGE YOUR MIND.

Let him make 100 pieces, you pay for those 100 pieces, and allow him to recover his setup time, his fixturing, etc.

At that time, you can change the specs, throw away the first 100 pcs, etc.

Don't be surprise if the quote moves slowly upward, as your features increase and the tolerances get tighter.

Thanks for the comments. I don't really understand where some of them are coming from however. I made those pieces shown in the photos. When the drawings are complete they will be sent to everyone interested and everyone will be looking at the same thing. I posted the photos as an example of what I'm looking for and sense of scale. If someone wants to bid on only one piece because his shop only does turning or sprockets or he has an apprentice that he can put to work cutting and drilling angle iron that is fine with me. I am not looking for precision machining, but things have to be reasonably accurate and presentable. It's not a rocket ship, unfortunately.

    sense of scale
    Where's the ruler?

Okay, all those nice radii on the corners, are those needed, or would a good deburring suffice?

You may need to find a local powder coater for the finish. Once they are coated/painted, the packing/shipping would require some TLC to avoid marring the finish.

Jeez man, that picture and description should be more than enough to work out a quote.

Kinda what I thought. Is it the Heat getting on your nerves, Steve, or the water restrictions now in the driest June on record? Hey, All our lawns look like shit this year.

Don't run him off, some of us have some open time and could like to pick up a bit of extra work

Hey, on a better note, I'd like to see a bit more in detail when you have available. Feel free to send to ironman34@msn.com ... On these pieces, are you simply looking for corrosion resistance? Might be a variety of materials possible, depending on strength requirements.

As for powder coating, unlike what has been said, care does not have to be extreme with powder coating applied correctly..... hard to scuff.

Thank for your post. Yes corrosion resistance is the goal. Stainless angle might be less expense than combined expense of powder coating etc. I do not want hard corners for some safety concerns. If that is an expensive thing to do then the drawings will be changed to a 45 deg. chamfer and a long tumble. I am learning as we go and appreciate all the help and advise to keep the costs reasonable. Jim

Thanks to all who responded to my request. The drawings, photos, specs, just went out. If you were interested and did not receive an email I apologize for the error contact me again and I'll send it out to you.
Thanks again for everyone's help. Jim

Open quoting creates a reverse auction and guarantees you won't be low bid, why anyone does this is beyond me.
