A trumpeter colleague and I are both looking for a source for spinning mandrels (steel or cast iron, alloy ) for making trumpet and trombone bells.

Two examples:
- 1 -
Length : 650mm
Max. diam: 104.5mm
Min. diam: 10.65mm
Large end: bored 40mm deep; internally threaded. (Spec TBD)
Small end with 20mm of M10 threads; center-drilled. (Thread finish not crucial)
- 2 -
Length : 525mm
Max. diam: 126mm
Min. diam: 18mm
Large end: bored 40mm deep; internally threaded. (Spec TBD)
Small end with 20mm of M10 threads; center-drilled

Diameter specifications will be provided at 5-10mm intervals and should be precise to 0.1mm or better; curves should be interpolated/smoothed (not straight segments); the finished part is a mandrel on which a trumpet bell can be spun.

Finish should be very smooth / near-mirror / minimum P400 sandpaper equivalent.

If the machinist prefers to construct the mandrel in 2 or 3 pieces to save material and machining time (joined by welding, screw joint, press fit, etc.) rather than in one piece, this is acceptable.

My apologies for my inadequate vocabulary with regard to finish, etc.

I'd ask first for ballpark figures on what to figure cost-wise; I'll then email sketches and detailed measurements.

Shipping would be to Syracuse, NY and Deland, FL (1-2 mandrels each).

Looking forward to hearing what some of you can offer! Thank you in advance!
